Gypsum is a rock that, like limestone, occurs naturally and in many parts of the
world. Gypsum has many uses including crops, fruits, vegetables, lawns, gardens
and golf courses. By far, the biggest consumer of gypsum is wallboard for the construction
industry. 39 million tons of gypsum are consumed annually. And so it goes; everybody
uses the rock nobody knows. Benjamin Franklin, the great experimenter, was one of
the firsts to introduce it in this country when he used ground raw gypsum, called
land plaster, on his farm
Gypsum has been used as a building material since the Egyptians erected the Pyramids.
